Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being young scientists, my students are inquisitive and are constantly questioning the world around them. They have many talents and skills that they bring to our classroom everyday. They are creative and critical thinkers who are developing a scientifically based view of their worlds. They are problem solvers who are not afraid to take on complex challenges. Our school serves students of all abilities and proudly promotes the idea that all students can learn, but not on the same day and not in the same way.
My Project
Teaching science is fun and exciting, but it can also be a challenge to have all the materials we need. We are now using the Next Generation Science standards in our middle school classes. Our courses are integrated which means we teach Earth science, Physical, and Life Science. The challenge for the teachers is to do this without any new textbooks or supplemental materials. These supplemental materials will allow me to teach my students about chemical reactions and the periodic table, neither of which are in the textbook or supplemental materials given to us by our district. Science is all around us and I want my students to be given the tools they need to understand what they are experiencing.
