My Students
Hello, my children are special not only by being survivors of the recent flood but, because they come from low income households. Their neighborhoods are also low income and have a lot of gang involvement. Their parents work just to make ends meet and are gone for the majority of the day at work. Their families are immigrants from other countries who have come to ours for a better life. They are mainly Spanish speaking children learning English as a second language. Our school has a program in place that we use to help children learn English. It is a 2 hour block all in English and my children try to speak to the other classmates in English if they can. We do this everyday to easy them into speaking English and get them ready for Kindergarten and for the State exams they will encounter in 3rd grade and on.
My Project
The flooding in our area devastated our school and their homes. I want to make our room feel like they are home. This is the only safe place they have. I need iPads, listening stations, headphones, speaker to teach everyday and, make my room a fun place full of activities. These items are used everyday to reinforce what has v I don't want them to suffer anymore, I want to see smiles and laughter. I don't know what they have to go home to, so I want our school to be a bigger part of their lives. Any donations are greatly appreciated and would not go unused.
