Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the BEST AND GREATEST students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher but they teach me so many lessons each day as well. Last school year I had the honor of being my students' third-grade literacy teacher. For the 2016-2017 school year, I was granted the gift of being their teacher again.
My students attend a Title l school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in shelters.
Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own life.
My Project
It is extremely important to give students a space to share their voice. That is why I provide my students with blogging opportunities! Blogging within my classroom is not only school related but it is also learning related. In the blogs that my students create I learn not only about what my students are learning in school, but what they are passionate about and which helps me to better serve them as their educator.
Blogging allows my students to learn using the different learning styles that fit their needs.Even my students with the most severe and profound disabilities are using technology to reach their highest potential!
My students will continue to become excited about their learning as they share their knowledge through blogging and collaborating with their peers. Because technology is such an essential part of our world, having tablets in the classroom will help my students learn the much needed 21st century skills. As of right now, the 4th grade team within my school shares 14 laptops. However, my students get the short end of the stick because they are each a class of thirty students sharing 14 laptops. Often they can't finish their blogging task because they have to share their laptop with a several peers. They try their best to share what they have but the lack of technology in my classroom cuts into all the blogging units I prepared over the summer for my students. My students thoroughly enjoy blogging and I do not want to take this opportunity away from them especially that it has given them a new found love for learning.
Please help me fund this project so my students can expand their minds in all content areas through blogging!
