Help me give my students sketchbooks to make this year's art classes special. Students have been through a lot in the past 6 months. I want to provide each of my incoming Art students with a sketchbook.
Our school is a public magnet school. In past years, students traveled from all over town to attend our school. However, we will start this year working remotely. Ours is an international themed, special admit public school and many students live below the poverty line. Since the pandemic began, students who already had challenges are struggling even more. Our school community is supportive and students get along in diverse friend groups. With the challenges of this pandemic, I want to provide something special for my students. These sketchbooks will be a way for each student to draw artwork, experiment, plan ideas for their art, and reflect.
My Project
Students often use standard, composition books as their Art journals, but its hard for students to draw meaningful, quality work on lined paper. We use our sketchbooks every day in class. If each of my students gets a sketchbook, remote learning in Art class will be more special. These nice sketchbooks are not something many of students have ever used before. This gesture will show students that we care and my students need TLC in these challenging times. Our lessons focus on making work with personal meaning and having a good sketchbook will be a wonderful step toward that goal. I hope we can provide a sketchbook for each of my students this year.
