This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California. Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal.
My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism, and I currently have nine students.
The individual needs of my students vary greatly, so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands-on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help me provide my students with hands-on tools and engaging activities that will support them in expanding their knowledge of math, science, and engineering. Many of these materials, such as the ice cream scoop counting set, also involve fine motor skills. Being able to work on academic skills and fine motor skills simultaneously is very beneficial in a primary special education program. Having these materials will help me enhance our center based math and science groups. Using these math and science materials during centers will allow my students to explore, create, and problem solve independently.
