Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school which means a high percentage of them are from low-income families. Everyday they are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are creative, clever and very energetic.

They like to move, they love to learn and love lots of positive attention. In addition to many students coming from low income families, many of them also are Emergent Bilinguals, and are working on becoming proficient in English. These outside factors may prevent them from getting the start they need in life. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their lives outside the classroom, however, I can certainly try to provide a positive and creative experience during the school day. By doing this, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic

My Project

Students need to know how to problem solve, create, design, and engineer to compete in the future jobs market. Research shows that young learners learn best through hands-on, project based learning activities. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum and supplies will greatly benefit young learners as they cultivate skills needed to develop into creative, bright learners thus molding them for the wonderful futures in head of them.

One way we can encourage creativity and critical thinking is by providing the children with project based challenges.

These hands-on STEM materials are not provided in my classroom, and I think they are needed! Imagine the engagement of a six year old as he or she has the opportunity to design, build, and write about the creations they imagine using these supplies! The possibilities are endless, so let's help the children STEM it up!
