My Students

I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn. I have taught first grade for 5 years and been a member of ATPE. I love what I do and love ATPE.

My Project

My students will work in stations to practice skills that are taught during whole group instruction. My students will work in small groups during stations and will be able to communicate with classmates while working together.

My students need resources to incorporate reading, writing and math stations.

I want to encourage their excitement by providing them with activities that are engaging and exciting. The pre-made kits are used in reading, writing and math stations. The CVC box will help readers practice short vowels as well as beg, mid, and ending sounds. The whisper phones will be used during guided reading and the read to self station. The treasure box will hold all the prizes for incentives.
