This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders are ready to read and write! In order to get the students motivated, we need supplies such as chart markers that are colorful and kid friendly! Even the most reluctant writers will want to write in the composition notebooks made especially for primary grade students!

I teach first grade in an inner city Title I school.

My students are eager to learn. We are a diverse population, with children coming from several different cultural backgrounds. The children enjoy sharing and learning about their different backgrounds from one another. My class usually has a range of interests and abilities and it's my job to keep them all engaged and interested in learning!

My Project

It is very difficult for first graders to use a standard notebook. The primary composition book is designed for primary students, with special lines for young learners. It has a space on the top of each page for a picture. This will improve handwriting! We also need a magnetic write and wipe board to list our words of the week and sentences on it. It uses dry erase markers so the children can use it and easily erase mistakes. We need colorful flip chart markers for students (and teacher) to create charts to hang in the classroom as we learn. The stamp pads and stamps will be used as rewards for work well done and good behavior. The art organizer is actually going to be used to organize our paper and supplies in our writing center. It has small drawers on the sides for pencils, erasers, and markers, etc. We have a copy machine in our classroom (courtesy of Donorschoose)! It has become an invaluable resource for us! However, we're out of toner which we desperately need.

The supplies that I'm requesting will help the classroom run smoothly.

It will keep materials organized, and that will keep the children organized and motivated. Our school is working towards meeting national standards in reading and writing and all of these materials will help my class meet that goal. Due to drastic cuts to the education budget, these materials will not otherwise be available.
