My Students

Today's preschoolers are not like the children in previous decades. They have experienced serious family issues, lots of hours of TV and are technologically sophisticated by age six. It takes special ideas to meet their needs and keep them motivated to learn. As kids change, teaching must change.

My students are ages three to five years old.

They are cute, funny, active and full of energy. While most of my students are at-risk, they are very eager to learn. Our school provides education for levels Pre-K through 8th Grade, which gives my students an early start to succeed in school and in life. My classroom offers a high quality, 2.5 hours of instruction. I am committed to creating an engaging learning environment that supports and respects the unique potential of each individual student through best practices. My classroom is dedicated to building a strong foundation and igniting a passion for lifelong learning for children and their families. My students are given freedom to explore, discover and experiment. They have the opportunity to attempt to plan, make things and get involved. My students have daily opportunities to develop their cognitive, language, social, emotional physical, and motor skills. They become young authors, mathematicians and scientists.

My Project

My classroom is in need of Sing Along, Read Along with Dr. Jean because songs, rhymes and chants are fun and perfect ways to help preschoolers learn. The music provides repetition for prior learning. Singing songs and chanting with children captures their imagination, interest and motivates them. Replacing worksheets with rhyming and chanting develops letter recognition and phonemic awareness skills. The CD and books will enhance a love for reading. Students are motivated to act out the stories. They develop reading skills such as listening, speaking, fluency, writing, vocabulary, memory and sounds. The catchy tunes will also reinforce math skills such as number recognition and number concepts. The movement activities will enhance patterns, shapes, color and counting skills. In addition, students will develop how to discover, explore and create. They become rhythmic by dancing, tapping and humming. Also, they develop geography, history, science and social skills.

Singing, rhyming and chanting play a role in setting the tone of our room, develop skills and concepts, help children make transitions and build a sense of community. Brain Research says that singing and chanting makes us feel good because our body releases endorphins into our system that will help boost our memory. Singing requires that we take in oxygen which increase our alertness and enhance our brain functions.
