My Students
I teach in a special education preschool classroom. My students come from very diverse backgrounds and have an incredibly wide range of abilities. We are working on walking, talking, writing, jumping, sharing, listening, playing, dressing, eating, all in addition to learning our letters, colors, and shapes.
Because my students are all learning at different paces and have a very distinct skills, it is important that our classroom embraces their strengths and also gives them a safe space to work on their challenges.
These students work and play hard throughout their school day. They are consistently growing and changing, demonstrating new skills, new preferences, and new ways that they are able to learn. They are truly a dynamic group and deserve a classroom that reflects all of their incredible diversity.
My Project
The supplies I am requesting will help me create a sensory experience for my students to explore different textures, learn about their five senses, or simply find a cozy place to take a break. Many of my students have sensory seeking behaviors and this space will give them a safe place experience new and different sensations.
With this new space, my students will be provided with a variety of textures, materials, and activities to facilitate the full body learning experience of a preschooler.
This space will contribute to a more well-rounded classroom environment, making it more accessible to students who are learning through tactile experiences. We will use the wooden 12x12 frames to fill with textures. Our canopy will be used to create a quiet space for reading or just a break from the group. We will use the variety of vibrating cords and cushions to expand the students knowledge of feelings and textures. The floor cushions will help to create a welcoming sensory experience for them to explore. At the same time, this space will provide opportunity for expanding the students knowledge and vocabulary to better describe the world they live in.
