Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our 3rd-5th graders are the most altruistic group of kids I've ever met, and so providing them the skills and tools needed to become leaders in their community will reach more people than we can imagine.
Overall, our school serves over 520 K-5 students in North Philadelphia.
Around 25% of our students are English-Language Learners and around 10% of our students are in Special Education. We value our bilingualism and recognize that the more cultures our school represents, the more strengths we can draw from each of those cultures. 100% of our students come from economically-disadvantaged homes, and despite the extra challenges this might bring, our Taylor community is resilient and resourceful.
My Project
These comfy floor seats will provide additional seating in my classroom library. Currently the library is able to offer 3 bean bags for student seating. These comfy floor seats will be added to a low table, so students can sit on the floor, have support for their backs, and still work on a hard surface.
Students are excited to use areas of the classroom that provide the opportunity to do something different than what they get to use all day.
Providing an area where they can be productive and comfortable will encourage them to get excited about learning new things.
