Super Science

Help me give my students a subscription to two Science Magazines for the upcoming school year. These magazines have always been their favorite and moving our science standards to a new grade level means we need more resources.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Choosing Special Education as a career path has changed my outlook on life. I get to spend my days with 24 students between 5th and 6th grade who look at the world around them in a whole new light and it is so rewarding. These kids just want to take in every bit of information I can give them. We laugh together, learn together and grow together.

Our school is a Title I school where 98% of our students qualify for free and reduced priced food.

Not just lunch though, our school serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is a suburb of Phoenix that has a high poverty rate and high crime rate, yet my students come every day with smiles on their faces and want to be here.

The school has an A rating and strives for excellence for all of the students. This proves that coming from a title I school does not need to hold the students back. These kids strive to do their best and are thriving while they are with us in school.

My Project

I am moving down grade levels this next year and now I will be working on Science in the classroom with my students, where normally as the resource teacher I would be teaching math, reading and writing. Adding this new subject with all new standards for my 5th graders means we need some fun resources to give us daily challenges and up to date articles to read.

In past years, I have been given the blessing of receiving Scholastic Storyworks which to this day my students thoroughly enjoy so I thought adding a fun Scholastic Science magazine would be a great follow up.

These magazines are engaging and offer up to date information through articles, graphs, challenges, and experiments. My students love to work through the magazines and I think adding this magazine to our daily work will end up being more of a reward than work.
