My Project

I'm a small group reading intervention teacher in Red Hook, Brooklyn. My school is a Title I school and over 95% of its students receive free lunch.

The neighborhood my school is located in contains one of New York City's largest public housing developments and most of my students reside there.

Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from all of the bells and whistles of New York City.

In a few short weeks, the 2022-23 school year will be over . . . but students will be having fun and learning up until the very end! One of the events we are most looking forward to are our "Super Saturdays" where we build a school-wide community by inviting all families of students, grades 3K-5th grade, to the school yard on Saturdays in May and June to build crafts with their teachers, dance to music, and eat delicious food to celebrate a long year of learning!

We are requesting materials for two Super Saturday craft projects. Students will use the clothespins, yarn, fabric, and markers to create their favorite character on a clothespin. They will also use the peel & stick sand kits along with a few other supplies to create their own unique works of sand art. These various craft materials will make our final two Super Saturdays of the school year a huge success. Thank you for your support and generosity!
