My Students
My school is located in a fairly small, close-knit community. The location has attracted many new families to the area. Our school's diversity is growing, and we are trying to keep up. About 23% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many have supportive parents at home, but some need extra support from various professionals at school.
My students are still at the age where they love school and love learning new things.
In order to continue to foster a love of learning, our school strives to provide innovative strategies to keep students engaged. Our faculty is eager to help students be successful.
My Project
My junior high students learn about plant and animal cells in both 7th and 8th grade. We currently have little variety in the microscope slides available at the school. Many are damaged, broken, taped together, or just unusable. My students are fascinated by the slides we currently have, but would benefit from a wider variety of tissue samples.
My students need a new set of microscope slides to be able to see the variety of cells present in plants and animals.
This comprehensive set of 100 microscope slides surveys major animal phyla, and plant divisions. It explores human and mammalian tissues, and compares and contrasts mono and dicot roots, stems, and leaves. It incorporates parasitic, saprophytic, and free-living forms, as well as natural textile fibers.
