Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second grade ESL teacher in a Dual Language program. This school year, my content area is English and Math. Most of my students have been learning English and Spanish since kindergarten! Many of my students' native language is Spanish. My students work diligently every day to learn in both English and Spanish.
I would like to offer a wider variety of books for their growing interests and reading levels.
Many of our class library books are worn or torn from lots of love!
My Project
Imagine your world without a place to read a good book! Many of my students do not have personal libraries at home. Most of my ESL students do not visit a public library on a regular basis. Fortunately, our class library gets visited daily! A lot of our books have been loved to the point of obvious wear and tear. Some of the books in our class library are falling a part. Our shelves have some empty spaces, which need to be replenished. I would like to offer a variety of non-fiction books for my super readers. These Scholastic News mini-libraries will help fill some gaps in our class library.
