Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember ever reading a book that seemed to change your whole world? My students are getting older and need to continue to be challenged to read more difficult books. I know that these books will give them the resources they need to succeed this year!
My students are English Language Learners with special needs.
Learning to read has always been challenging for them. Every year they work tirelessly to improve their reading skills. Budgets are tight in New York public schools, so I want to make sure they have what they need to reach their reading goals.
My Project
The focus of my request is non-fiction books. My students all reading on different levels, so I am asking for varied leveled texts. The non-fiction books all have vivid pictures, which should inspire them and open up a whole new world to them.
I have also asked for a set of books on grammar because this is an area that English Language Learners struggle with often. These grammar books are bright and cheerful and should make this subject more interesting. The last request is for Common Core Standard text exemplars that will help them master many different genres.
My students have a few obstacles to overcome, but these obstacles have never gotten them down.
In fact they continue to persevere. They have made me so proud. I want to ensure that they have what they need this year so that they will most definitely continue to do so.
