Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Ms. G, we love this game!" This is what I hear every time we play fun math games in my classroom. We teachers must find creative ways to nurture a love for math, but we need materials to make it happen.
Teaching in a high poverty school can be challenging, but rewarding.
Math can be either a really fun subject to teach or really boring. It doesn't have to be boring though, since it's the easiest subject to "spice up" for the kids by simply implementing fun math activities. Math games are one of the best ways to motivate reluctant students.
My Project
The games I have requested will reinforce essential math skills such as: addition, subtraction, money, geometry, mental math and problem solving. The cards have questions specially selected to prepare students for standardized tests. My students will not only build deeper mathematics understanding and gain the benefits of healthy attitudes toward math, but they will also get engaged in the language and communication of mathematical ideas and concepts.
I have also requested a class set of dry-erase markers that will help them show their work on their lap boards when they solve math problems. This is a critical step that my students skip frequently when they take a test.
When students are having fun, they are more open to learning. These games are a fantastic way to keep them engaged.
I would love to see my students get even more energized about math!
I want to see the looks on their faces when they see just how much someone cared about them and their education. Please help make a difference to these children.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
