Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The past year I have been working on redoing our school library, and organizing it in a way that is more visual and friendly for all students, especially those who have disabilities; each section is going to be color coded with photos for characters and genres.
There is a lot of native Spanish speakers at the school I work at, this includes students, paraprofessionals and teachers; this collection of books will be great for those students who understand Spanish as well as the teachers, so they can read to their students in a language they can understand!
According to data on the DOE (Department of Education website) about 80% of the students attending the school I work at are Hispanic. This is a large percentage, and I would love for everyone at the school to be able to find books to read.
These selection features some graphic novels for older students, picture books that are great for story times with teachers, and a handful of social stories as well.
I am excited to continue expanding my school's library and having everyone at our school be represented and find books they can enjoy reading!
