This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Engaging students in reading is not an easy task in this digital age, which is why I am asking for a class set of the 2023-2024 Sunshine State Young Readers Awards (SSYRA) books. These books will make a difference in my students’ learning by allowing them to check them out from our classroom library in order to participate in the SSYRA challenge. Our school library has copies, however, having additional copies makes the books more accessible for all students. This is a state-wide reading challenge sponsored by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and the Florida Association of Media Education (FAME).
These books are challenging, diverse, and just plain fantastic!
The SSYRA reading program will help my students grow a love of reading for a lifetime. We will use these books for a variety of activities including independent reading, book clubs, and read-alouds. Once students complete a book, they will receive small awards and recognitions from the school, the librarian, and myself!
