Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class of 23 diverse, urban kindergarten students live below the poverty line and are predominately English language learners who have not attended preschool.

The kindergarten standards in our state focus on identifying plant structures and symmetry. In previous years, we have been able to incorporate chemistry as well by making and observing sunprints of various plant structures from our school garden. The students love to create the "plant shadows" and learn how the chemical process involved is similar to photography.

This year we have run out of sunprint paper for this project. Since our budget is frozen, my students won't be able to participate in this exciting science project without the sunprint paper this grant will provide.

5th graders and graduates from our school often come back and tell me that this project is the one they remember the most about kindergarten. You can make the lasting learning of this integrated science lesson a reality for the students in my class for the next few years by donating to this project!
