Summertime Reading is Fun, Exciting and Adventurous!
Help me give my students The Love of Summer Time Reading. I want to put a book in the hands of every student in my class over summer break. I want my students to read all year long!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I have a split primary classroom of 1st and 2nd graders. They love to learn new things and read chapter books. My students have made great gains with their reading fluency and reading comprehension. I would like to continue to help my students with their reading gains. Most of my students are English Language Learners and Diverse Learners and reading many chapter books is our classroom goal. My students enjoy reading new books and adding the books read by our class to a classroom reading chart. My wish is for all my students to have a chapter book to read during Summer Break. I do not want their access to books to come to an end as we approach the end of the school year.
My students work so hard to improve their reading fluency and comprehension throughout the year.
I meet with my students during data reading collection time, and I can see the confidence when they read in small groups. They track their process in their reading data folders, and it is amazing to see their growth. I want to advocate for my students to have books to read.
Many of my students come from low-income families and simply cannot afford to buy books. During the school’s book fair many of my students were not able to purchase a book. My wish is to ensure every child has one book to read during Summer Break. I have different levels of readers, and this is why I need the multiple books sets to ensure I have the right book for each child. I want to keep the love of reading strong during summer break. I do not want my students to lose what they have accomplished during the school year due to lack of books at home.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
