My Project

Did you know that there is something called the "summer slide"? No, this is not a fun time at the park. The "summer slide" or "summer loss" is the tendency for many students (low income, language learning, and everyone in between) to lose up to 2 months of reading achievement that they worked so hard to build during the regular school year. Many students lose access to reading materials during the summer. They simply lose the consistency of having materials and support during the school year.

Similar to "book lists" and required reading, The Tournament of Books will provide all second grade students at our school books to read over the summer.

Not to mention, this reading program will give them a platform to have book discussions with peers, create literature based projects, hold public presentations of learning, and have fun with the adventure of reading all summer long.

Mr. Franklin will only receive his materials if this project is fully funded by Saturday, May 18.
