My Students

When I look around my classroom and see students working in groups to learn cooperatively, I know that I am making a difference in their lives. There is laughter, joy, and pure excitement filling my classroom as we explore literacy together, using non-traditional strategies. For me, that is the highlight of my teaching career.

There is no greater joy than to help a student grow as a reader and writer.

This is why I teach. Smekens gives me the tools.

My Project

Have you ever wanted to be a guest on the Oprah Show? The talk show days when Oprah gave each member of the audience a gift? By attending the Smekens Education Solution annual Literacy Retreat in Chicago, IL in June, I will be attending an event even more exciting than spending the day with Oprah.

Kristina Smekens and her staff are known for fast-paced literacy retreats which give teachers cutting edge literacy strategies that are so much fun, the students learn while moving throughout the classroom in hands-on activities.

I have attended this retreat before, and I come away refreshed.
