Summer reading is very important for maintaining a child's current grade level skills and for pushing forward to develop skills above the current grade level. I wish to give each one of my students a bag for summer that contains books, activities, and supplies to complete a mini-project.
Students who don't read are at risk of falling behind their classmates.
I teach in a school that has over 90% of the students receiving free or reduced lunches and studies reveal that children of lower income have more difficulty finding access to books and reading programs.
These Reading book bags will give my students the advantage they need to exercise their brains. I will encourage my students to read to strengthen their reading skills. Just like exercising keeps muscles in shape, reading keeps the brain in shape. I will emphasize that if they don't exercise, they lose muscle, and if they don't read, they will lose literacy skills.
I will include a variety of high-interest books and activity workbooks that encourage greatness in girls (I am at an all-girl school). I will use my TPT gift card to find a variety of resources for book projects for the students to choose from.
