These backpacks will be filled with books and snacks that will keep second-grade students excited about reading and provide activities for healthy play for their upcoming summer break. Reading over the summer months is crucial to stopping the summer reading slide. This project will help assist with stopping the summer reading slide.
Reading is always essential, but even more so as students catch back up from this crazy past year we’ve had!
Over half of my students are reading below their grade level. My hope is to encourage reading during the summer months by sending home a new book with every student when they are dismissed for the summer. I would love to see my students come back in the fall talking about what they read over the summer.
