Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This summer, a group of students from my high school will be enrolled in college classes through our dual enrollment program. These are students who are choosing to challenge themselves, spending their summer earning college credit, building academic confidence, and preparing for life beyond high school.
AHS is a small, community-based public charter school in East Oakland committed to social justice, college readiness, and the success of young people from historically underserved communities.
The majority of our students will be the first in their families to attend college. Many come from low-income households and face significant barriers to accessing the resources needed to succeed in higher education.
Through our dual enrollment partnerships with local community colleges, students can take college courses while still in high school, allowing them to explore career pathways and gain a head start on their degrees. But to participate fully, students need access to reliable laptops and basic essentials like snacks, things that aren’t always guaranteed.
This project will fund MacBook Air laptops for students to use during their summer courses and snacks to support long study days on campus or at home. A laptop is more than a device, it’s a doorway to opportunity. Snacks might seem small, but they send a clear message: your hard work matters, and we’re here to support you.
Your contribution will help ensure that AHS students can take full advantage of the opportunities they’ve earned. With the right tools and a little encouragement, they’re ready to thrive.
