Summer Camp Supplies for Low-Income Chicago Students

My students need supplies to grow crystals, study wind power, and do other investigations this summer. Students will study games from a scientific perspective!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This summer rising 5th and 6th graders will come together every day to work on hands-on projects that they choose. Students will play strategic games and engage with ideas they are excited about. In a culminating event, students will come together to plan and host a carnival.

My school is on the southwest side of Chicago, and is composed of low-income students who mostly speak Spanish at home.

Students are chosen to participate in summer camp because they are below their peers academically, and are in need of intervention and engagement.

My Project

Summer camp students learn strategy by playing games like chess and Jenga. Other materials will allow students investigate scientific ideas. Students will plan a carnival and will have wonderful materials to use, which include weighted rubber ducks and a water balloons. These items will activate and engage students and help them get excited about our summer of learning!

Summer learning loss is real.

My school is attempting to counteract the phenomenon by hosting summer camp for our most in-need students. We are doing this amidst a budget crisis because we know it's what our students deserve. Please help us get the supplies to make this summer rock for our kids!
