Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever read a good book over the summer. Perhaps you were laying on a beach or sitting by the pool as the grill sizzled with some delicious foods. My students leave me for two whole months during this time I want them to enjoy a chapter book or two.
I teach a third grade monolingual class.
Our school is located in a high-need, low income community where English is NOT the dominant language of most of our students. My students love to read when motivated with interesting books. Soon they will be going on their summer vacation some of them travel others just stay in the neighborhood parks and pools. I want to offer my students the tools they need to continue the reading progress they made this year.
My Project
These chapter books will maintain or even increase my students reading abilities so that when they come back to school in September we can just pick up where we left off. We have worked hard this year to develop a love for reading, this proposal will give my students the opportunity to have a great book in their hands to read as they enjoy this summer break will provide them with a response note book in which they can jot down their thought and encounters as they read. My students will learn that reading and learning doesn't only happen in the perimeter of our school building.
Your generous donations to our project will make a difference in the academic decrease that students usually make when they return to school in September.
With your support in funding this project we can begin to change those high numbers in the research. With books for the summer my students will maintain or increase their love and abilities of reading.
