Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help teach students what they're interested in and what they could be successful at! Hello! I teach 4th graders in a very low socioeconomic region in California. The only organized sports they play is the 20 min recess and lunch with jump ropes and 10 balls to service a school of 1000 students. Every week they come to class talking about Chelsea, Manchester, and Chivas (soccer teams) and write about famous soccer players in their quick writes. I think teaching them the fundamentals to the game they love to watch would be both fun and exciting to the students.

Our school has 1000 students. There are 8 fourth grade classrooms. Because of the size of our school, there are hardly any supplies to teach a successful physical education program (100 minutes/week mandated by the State of California). I have decided to teach soccer to ALL of the fourth grade classrooms in 6 week intervals. This means the equipment that is donated would service 176 students!

With your help, students could learn a quality sports education with authentic equipment. They could learn fundamental and cooperative skills. Students will learn the rules of the game instead of inventing harmful, dangerous methods of playing, such as what they are currently doing at recess.

Be apart of a positive change. Empower students to take action in something they're passionate about. If they come to school eager to talk about what they watch on TV, imagine how they'll act when they get to play what they love.
