Success With Focus

My Students

I love our students! I teach at a Title I school where over 70% are receiving free or reduced lunch. They are amazing students who love coming to school. All of our kids need the stability of our school since most of them move around so often. My job is to make sure they are cared for while also teaching them 5th grade standards.

Many of my students are struggling to either stay seated, not rocking in their chairs, or feel comfortable in the standard classroom chairs.

It is quickly becoming a safety problem as they rock and fall backwards. This project will support flexible seating for those kiddos who need it the most. These students do not qualify for accommodations for flexible seating through an IEP or 504 plan.

My Project

During the school day students are asked to sit and focus during lessons. Many of my students can not successfully listen without a little movement or fidgeting. As a safety measure, students are not allowed to rock in their chairs.

These extra wiggle tools will give them a chance to move and help keep them focused keeping their safety first.

I had a student rock in his chair and fall backwards twice! Without the option for OT assistance for many students I need extra help. These kiddos will be able to move and groove to help their bodies calm down during lessons.
