My Students

Our classroom library currently consists of books in plastic storage bins stacked on the floor and on top of some run down student desks in the back of the room. Finding books can be cumbersome. Our media cart is falling apart and can barely hold the newly acquired technology we put on it.

My amazing students attend a school in a neighborhood that is minimally funded by the federal government.

Made up of various cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and ranging from autistic to highly gifted, the one thing they all share is their enthusiasm for learning and extreme thirst for more information.

My Project

With a more organized classroom library, my students will be able to find and borrow the books they need and return them to the library so that other students can read them. They will no longer have to fight with big plastic bins set up on the floor. We need a new media cart because the one we have is broken and can not hold all the technology we have gratefully acquired over the years. Our speakers are constantly falling off of them. There is not enough space for our document camera, and the CDs, DVDs, and CD-ROMs we use don't have a home close to the cart. Having a working cart, with all of the supplies together, will allow me to have more instructional time for the students.

Kids learn to respect their materials if an example is set for them.

The skill of being organized will follow them throughout their lives. I'd like to set an example in our classroom of how organization makes things go more smoothly.
