This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school are inquisitive, creative, and compassionate. My students come from diverse backgrounds where English is their second language. This is a Title I school, meaning more than 89% of the student body comes from a low socioeconomic background. The students receive free or reduced-price lunch and often are recent immigrants from other countries.
My students enter the classroom with curious minds and are very eager to learn.
They come to school each day ready to try new things and grow both academically and personally. The method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We do our very best to incorporate a variety of different learning strategies and learning options to ensure that each of the students' needs is being met.
My Project
My classroom would benefit if we would be able to get an iPad with a protective cover, headphones, and a speaker. Students just don't always "get it". They struggle every day with counting money and coins. My students need a new, fun, interactive way to learn and review coins and bill amounts. They will be able to learn facts about money, look at the costs of different items, watch educational videos on BrainPOP, and engage in countless math apps to fine-tune their financial understanding.
We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.
By having an iPad in our classroom, my students will be able to practice counting and identifying coins in small groups. They will be able to use the headphones and a speaker in combination with the iPad at different center times. There are so many apps that are available that will help my students gain the financial literacy that they need to survive and be successful in our world. My students will benefit greatly from your help, so thank you in advance for enhancing financial literacy using technology. The iPads will provide students with a creative way to master their financial awareness.
