My Project

My students and I have spent the last year learning about our classroom and materials. As the district's only art teacher, I teach a wide range of grade and skill levels within my classroom. Kindergarten to seniors in high school have to utilize this classroom. It has been extremely difficult coming into a dirty and run down classroom, but we have persevered to learn and grow as artists and academics.

The current tables are swayed in the center, edges and corners gnarled on, legs broken and then patched up; the chairs with their cracked plastic that pinches our students.

I know that filling a large classroom with all new tables and stools is asking for a lot, but it is the vary basis of our classroom. How can we sit to create when we cant even trust the seat that we are taking. It is my goal to set our classroom and students up for success to learn and create. Many of our students are special needs and often my classroom has been an obstacle course of danger for them. With new tables and stools, I could provide a much safer environment to those students. This community hasn't had an art teacher consistently, and I would like to be that consistency.
