Our first graders are amazing risk-takers who love to learn.
Speaking, listening, reading, and writing are the foundational building blocks on which all other learning is built.
To provide instruction in a meaningful way we use a variety of resources, including rigorous text discussions, accountable talk, small group reading instruction, book clubs, and whole-group mini-lessons that focus on Common Core standards. Considering that our physical building is over 40 years old and the curriculum is constantly changing, some of our materials are out of date, and our basic supplies are in high demand. Students in first grade grow by leaps and bounds, both personally and academically.
These materials will help my students be successful during our school day! The sticky notes will be used during reading for my students to record their thinking. The pencil grips will help students hold their pencils correctly to improve their handwriting. The card stock will be used to make games more durable. The left-handed scissors will help my lefties cut easier. The black flair pens will be used during writing workshop to write narrative, expository, and opinion pieces.
Students learn by doing! The magnetic name tags will allow students to sign in each morning, make their lunch choices, and mark the math stations that they are going to.
