This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live the great city of Detroit and are in a low-income/high poverty school district. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite this, they are craving to learn more about the world around them.
They come from many cultures and speak many languages, we have Arabic speakers, Spanish speakers, and Romanian speakers.
Most of my students do not have assess to technology that their peers do in higher income areas. My students want to learn and explore the world. Most do not have access to the internet at home and to be successful in the 21st Century they need to be able to have that at school. They are a great group of kids who love coming to school each day.
My Project
I am requesting a larger classroom library and a carpet for my students. We currently have a small portion of books that they have already read through. They are always wanting to learn more and more; we need more books to help with our literacy skills. I am asking for books for our classroom library. These books will be used to help my students learn to become better readers and help them expand their world.
My students are from all over the world, I have Yemeni refugees, students who are immigrants from Mexico and Romania, and African American students.
We need materials like the Time for Kids magazines and the Scholastic Magazines to help bring the 21st century to our classroom. We are lacking in an updated Social Studies curriculum, these will make sure they are up to date and in the current world.
I am also requesting a carpet for my classroom, this will be a great way to spend time reading together. It will be nice to be able to sit on the carpet and read all these new materials. My students are a great group of kids that are craving more to do and learn.
