This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remembering a history that is not theirs is a difficult task for my students.

My students are newly arrived English Language Learners with very little historical knowledge of US History and Government.

Like many immigrants to the US, they are aware of some of the popular culture, but do not know the historical details of how the US was created and how it came to be what it is today. Unfortunately, without the elementary and middle school history foundation, they face the difficult task of passing the NY State Regents in US History and Government.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are review books that cover the topics specified by the NY State Board of Regents, as well as, review books written from the first person point of view. Reviewing history through the eyes of those that lived through it will make history much more interesting to them. Students will also be able to study and practice test taking skills like answering multiple choice and document based questions as well as essay writing. The additional review books will provide the "relevant outside information", that should be included when they write their Regents essays.

This project is important because it will supply my students with review books that will help them prepare for the US History and Government Regents in June.

It will give them additional resources which will help them attain one of the NY State Graduation Requirements.
