My Students

I teach at a small, public, all-boys college prep magnet school in Houston, Texas. Although teaching at a small school has its drawbacks (like teaching six different subjects by yourself!), the kids make it all worth it.

The students are bright, energetic, and truly have the intrinsic drive to learn!

They are on an endless quest for understanding, and their passion fuels discussions, debates, and exploration.

The students are fascinated by people and the world! They leap at the opportunity whenever they have the chance to dig deep into issues, and truly strive to achieve understanding and contribute to society.

My Project

As a part of the Model UN class I am teaching this year, the students will read the book "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide".

Gender inequality is a major human rights issue around the world, and this book does a wonderful job of sharing real people's stories and experiences.

We all know that teenagers (and arguably humans in general) are really great at understanding their own bubble and personal experiences, but may not be so aware of those outside their inner circle.

Undoubtedly reading the experiences of women around the world will help bring these issues to light, and will spark discussion and action by these young men.
