Do you remember a subject that you hated because it was so difficult? Do you remember trying so hard to get it, but you couldn't? That is how my students with disabilities feel about math. It is a challenge for them. My students need math big books and posters to help them increase math achievement.
I have general and special education students in a Title I school in Brooklyn, NY.
My students with disabilities are struggling in math. The problem is that they do not have enough resources to strengthen their math skills. My students with disabilities benefit from visual aids and the math story big books and posters will give my students with disabilities the support they need.
My Project
I am requesting 10 math story big books and a set of math posters. The posters are designed to appeal to visual learners through the use of attractive illustrations rich in mathematical content. Each poster has a meaningful situation for discussion on it followed by a specific learning task so they can be used to extend, consolidate, or repeat a lesson, and can be used as a visual aid to a lesson with a small group.
The 10 math big books integrate basic mathematics concepts with well-loved children's rhymes and stories. These books create a fun, engaging and effective learning process for children. This approach provides an enjoyable introduction to mathematical ideas and cultivates young learners' interest in the subject.
Students with disabilities need extra help and aids so that they will be able to achieve great academic success.
The 10 math big books that I am requesting help my students focus because they will be drawn to the story books. The posters will provide opportunities for consolidation, remediation and enrichment and encourage independent learning. This project will give my students a chance to prove to themselves and others that they can reach their fullest potential.
