My students need research-based resources, such as two C-Pen readers, Brain Training for Reversals: Numbers and Directions, SnapWords Lists A and B Sight Word Pocket Charts, and Right Brained Math books, for Fractions, Multiplication,Division, Addition and Subtraction, all to help improve their reading and math learning deficits due to Dyslexia.
Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning such as Attention-Deficit, Dyslexia, Social-Emotional, and Autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with social-economic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.
Nevertheless, in spite of their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful and eager to come to school- their safe haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!
Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!
My Project
My students need research-based resources, such as two C-Pen readers, Brain Training for Reversals: Numbers and Directions, SnapWords Lists A and B Sight Word Pocket Charts, and Right Brained Math books, for Fractions, Multiplication,Division, Addition and Subtraction, all to help improve their reading and math learning deficits due to Dyslexia.
I am a Special Education teacher who works with students identified with varied learning deficits.
While my students' IEPs (Individualized Learning Plans) have diagnosed them with a learning disability, it is not until a teacher has spent some time observing, assessing and working with students to narrow down their level of skills and determine what areas in reading or math need improvement.
Four months have passed since the beginning of the school year and it has become evident that a few of my students are suffering from Dyslexia. To see a student became frustrated because they are constantly mixing up the order of words as well miscalculate numbers due to reversals is the reason for this project as I wish to target their academic needs. My students are determined to read but currently finds it extremely difficult.
The Essentials of Dyslexia Assessment and Intervention book will help to assess my students and provide corrective, remedial reading and math instruction. The Blast Off to Reading!: 50 Orton-Gillingham Based Lessons for Struggling Readers and Those with Dyslexia, The Right-Brained Multiplication and Division, Right-Brained Place Value, The Illustrated Book of Sounds and Their Spelling Patterns, Right-Brained Fractions, Right-Brained Addition & Subtraction and Brain Training for Reversals: Numbers & Directions (Reversal Remedies Workbooks) provides visual steps on how to present letters and numbers to students with Dyslexia using remedies from research-based strategies! SnapWords List A and B Sight Word Pocket Chart Cards along are visual sight words cards and the c-pens are used by students with dyslexia to read words, sentences, short stories, and books. The Reading Guide Highlighter Strips assists students to track and monitor their reading. Thank you for your support in helping students with Dyslexia who are Determined to Read!
