My Project
Our students come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and many rely on the state's free breakfast and lunch for their nutrition. All of the students in the program that this project would benefit have an intellectual disability. They each need substantial support to grow and learn in the public school environment.
You can be part of meeting students' most basic needs through sensory-friendly snacks and celebrating their wins with a common love language - chocolate.
Snack time in the classroom is a substantial part of learning activities of daily living, social skills practice with peers, and engaging within a routine. For many of the students, it is filling their need for nutrition that is friendly to their sensory needs, including oatmeal for students who have difficulty chewing tough foods. For others, it is the opportunity to have a tangible item to work toward and motivation for the tough parts of the academic parts of their day.
