My students need a bookcase to display books that are relevant to what we are currently studying, so they do not have to hunt through our current classroom library.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Did you love to learn and read more about something your teacher taught you in school? My kids do! They love to read books about subjects we have learned about in class.
My students are third graders at a high poverty school in Arizona.
The state of Arizona doesn't give schools much funding, and our budgets are always being cut. Despite this fact, the students and teachers at this school do what they can to support each other, so that the students have a chance to succeed. While this community does not have much, I have watched as the school and students pulled together to organize food and blanket drives to help the homeless, sponsored each other with the Christmas Angel project, and continuously looked out for one another.
My Project
I am requesting a bookshelf display unit that will allow me to put books on display that relate to our current topics of study in math, reading, science and social studies. By displaying these texts, I allow my students to easily access more knowledge on related subjects. While I am fortunate enough to have books for my students to read, our current classroom library system of books in tubs makes it hard for them to find the book they are looking for.
Engaging students in reading is essential to their success.
By giving students a display of relevant texts to deepen their knowledge on a subject, we are enriching their learning and engaging them in reading. Students who read are students who succeed!
