This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic English language learners that need a few tools to help them stay on track. 100% of them receive free lunch. They come to school full of enthusiasm, but they need even the most basic supplies, like pens, pencils, and notebooks. Many of them work after school to support their families.
Our school has a great track record of helping these students graduate with success; however, we have limited resources and do not always have the means to purchase essential tools and enhancements for our students to make them successful.
My Project
My elective journalism class gives an opportunity for students to develop and publish their own news stories related to schoolwide, citywide, nationwide, and worldwide topics of interest. Student journalist also take photographs of their interview subjects and the events they cover. The school only has black and white printers available for printing, and the students need to print in color for their newspaper to have its maximum impact. I received a color printer for this exclusive purpose, but it is out of toner after a year's work. I am asking for high yield color and black toner cartridges. This request will give us a good start on next year's publications.
The donations to this project will help my students get their newspaper out to the community in a professional manner that they can be proud of.
The student newspaper is a great tool for encouraging student voice and empowerment. By providing the students with the resources they need, I can motivate them to do their best work. In addition, the school community will get the most out of the newspaper by seeing the news in full color. However, I truly need your help to make this a reality. Thanks!
