My students need science lab kits, instant learning centers, and hands-on activities.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Cook's classroom raised $511

My Students
As the Chinese proverb says, "I see, I forget. I hear, I forget. I do, I remember." I want my students to be engaged in hands-on projects in science that correlate to what they have been taught.
We are a special education behavioral program that serves students K-12 from the entire district.
My classroom is a self-contained, third grade classroom with students of various disabilities. They are energetic and thrive on new opportunities to show their academic capabilities.
Our school is 90% free and reduced price lunch rate, and most students only opportunity for hands-on experiments is within the walls of our classroom. They absolutely enjoy working on projects while learning new skills and information.
My Project
This year I want students to have a chance to experience creativity and inquiry in the classroom. I want them to see that what they are learning extends beyond our classroom walls and I want them apply their learning to real life situations.
The science learning centers allow students to work at their own pace to identify parts of an insect, sequence the water cycle, explore the solar system, analyze animal adaptations, compare states of matter, categorize simple machines, and classify animal groups.
Having more hands-on center based activities will allow for more actual time interacting with materials and each other instead of direct teacher instruction. They will remember this learning as they engage in active participation with each other and the materials supplied in the science kits.
They will document all of their exploration and observations in their own science journals. This will help incorporate reading and writing too!
Not only will they be able to discover and work at their own pace to identify parts of an insect, sequence the water cycle, explore the solar system & more, the projects will teach them cooperation, leadership, and team-building skills as they work in groups to create and learn.
