Students Think Like Scientists

Help me give my students Owl pellets (sterilized) that they can dissect at their desks.

My Project

Each pair of students will have their own owl pellet to dissect. The question they will be trying to answer is, “What do owls eat?” The students will be looking for tiny bone fragments and other clues.

Students will make careful observations, describe them, then use a data source to match their bone fragments to known animals and other foods owls eat.

This active learning is deeply engaging. It will lead to genuine collaboration and rich classroom discussion. The enthusiasm for science that this kind of hands-on learning generates is invaluable.
