Students, Start Your Engines: Document Camera And Sound Lectern
My students need a document camera with carrying case and magnifying lens and a lectern with sound to give greater access to students with visual and audio impairments.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Levine's classroom raised $808
This project is fully funded
My Students
Remember when a teacher tried to share a book and everyone called out, almost in unison, "I can't see! I can't see!" This is the problem my students have when I read a story to them! The document camera I am requesting can fix this problem by projecting the book pages nice and big right onto the screen!
The students in this Pk-5 urban/suburban neighborhood school are diverse in every way you can possibly imagine.
We are racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse. Many students have learning differences as our school is the only one in the school district designated as a full inclusion school. This makes our school the school of choice for many families who have children with exceptionalities, learning differences, and other social/emotional needs.
Some of our students have vision and hearing impairments. I am requesting the Smart Cart Lectern with Sound so that as I am reading a fun fictional story or teaching information literacy skills with nonfiction texts, not only will students be able to see the large projected images from the document camera but all students will be able to hear through the use of the integrated microphone system on the Smart Cart Lectern which will house the document camera.
My Project
Picture this. A student has just learned how to draw a diagram of a heart. How? Great question! With this document camera and its accessories and the mobile lectern with sound, I will be able to project scientific diagrams and even zoom in on the smallest arteries. Next, I will be able to conduct a step-by-step drawing lesson of the heart while the students follow along with their paper attached to clipboards.
The students will be able to follow my directions along the way when my voice is augmented via the microphone system of the SMART lectern cart. In the past, I might have had to stand in front of the board doing step-by-step diagram drawing with my body would be blocking their view! And, my voice would have been muffled as I struggled to look at the students AND the board at the same time! With the requested equipment, there will be not be a bad seat in the house. Everyone will be able to see and hear the entire lesson with image and voice projection thanks to the new equipment!
This project is important because students who might have become frustrated due to not being able to see or hear the lesson adequately will now receive the most complete audio/visual experience possible.
The minute we lose the attention of our students, they lose the chance to learn.
As the Teacher-Librarian, I teach the whole school. If the library could receive the document camera and lectern with sound, every student will be impacted and have much greater access to instruction! Thank you!
