My Students
By nature, all of us are curious about the world around us. I can't imagine stepping out of my home and not realizing that millions of other human beings have already begun their day or that they are just finishing it. I watch the news daily so that I am immersed in the city and the world I live in. I remember that my curiosity was peaked by a scholarly magazine in my classroom called Time for Kids. This magazine gave me the insight that my little world was common and yet uncommon to other places and other children my age. My students don't get the exposure of the world around them.
The children of the 205 get very little exposure beyond their zip code.
This classroom resource can bring them the world they live in without leaving their desks! As a teacher, I understand the relevance that the student experience brings to understanding the world in which we live in and the importance of diversity of ideas. To be able to look beyond our door stoops and marvel at the world around us.
My Project
Time For Kids magazine will enable students to be exposed to the world they live in. Time will allow my students to witness how other students their age participate in their world. It is my hope that for as much as the children will notice similarities, they will embrace the differences, and keep their minds open to how this knowledge will help them grow and learn through all aspects of their lives. Although we are constantly reminded how small the world is, it is amazing how insignificant we can also feel in it. This resource will help to build those bridges that bind the human race. This resource will also aid in the language arts department as students will be introduced to new vocabulary words, sentence structure, paragraph forms, and nonfictional informational text.
