Students of the Arts and Creativity of the Mind!

My students need a 6-track portable recording device to assess their intonation and problem concerns; workbooks to assist in theory learning; and a new viola to replace the older ones.

My Students

Each day, I teach three different classes of orchestra, music theory, and keyboarding for beginners. Students range in grades from 7th to 12th grade. It is a dream to have my students work towards their understanding of the music and learn new techniques along with comprehension of music.

Students of our school come from numerous socio and economic backgrounds.

They are all tremendous young people who work hard to make a better life for themselves and try hard to be the best. The school is an exemplar model for learning and creative arts. We strive for academic and performing arts standards. Our one dilemma in the performing arts is to provide one-on-one training for students in the musical realm. If our students had the opportunity to study with a private teacher, it would truly benefit not only the student but the program as well. With the resources that are provided and top educators, we assist our students in being the best that they can be. Each individual student is provided with the best education in our area with few resources.

My Project

With a 6-track portable recording device, workbooks, a new viola, and other supplies and materials that I am requesting, students will have the opportunity to assess their playing ability. Using technology in the classroom will truly help students understand where their problem areas are and the teacher has a chance to assess and fix problem areas. Recording students also gives the teacher an opportunity to create an audio portfolio of a student that can be used for an end-of-year review of what the student has accomplished. Having a new instrument would benefit the program and students in the sound quality of that instrument. Over time, it would be nice to add more instruments to our classroom that have great quality and build. Students currently are using older, cheaper models that do not represent a quality sound. With the books that are asked for, we will be able to provide our students with the resources to excel in their knowledge and understanding of music.

Though our students treat our equipment and instruments carefully, our classroom has not seen new equipment in years.

By building from the bottom up and demonstrating to the students that if the teacher cares, they will learn to care. In the past year that I have spent with our school, I have seen students begin to care and work harder because they see me come in two hours before school and stay for an hour or two after school. If students know you care, they will give their all for the program.
