My Students
When you walk into our high school science classrooms, you will see a room full of brown and black faces actively engaged in learning. Our students are career-minded. They are planning steps to achieve job placement that will enable them to contribute to the flourishing of their community.
Our public charter school is located in Missouri, in one of the most segregated cities in the USA.
Access to quality science education has been adversely impacted by decades of decreased school funding and this has impacted our students' neighborhoods through decreased community development, quality housing, and access to healthcare.
My Project
Students of color need real-world lab experience. Next fall 2022, we will be in a new building with a new lab. All of these supplies will transfer to our new lab.
These supplies will facilitate our students' ability to understand chemical phenomenon.
We plan 4 chemistry classes this fall, so we need to organize multiple laboratory preparations and store sterilized safety goggles. Our current building is old and we don't trust the gas lines, so we are transitioning to portable Bunsen burners. The molecular models will supplement our supply and enable hands-on chemical structure assembly.
We can't wait to see our students in lab doing chemistry!
