My Students
I tried to save my students' families the trouble of worrying about supplies. All year I have been providing sharpened pencils. They know they can count on a full basket of pencils ready to go everyday. We have gone through TWO sharpeners this year! They were devastated when the last one broke
My students have been with me for two years, kindergarten and now first grade.
Their families are hard working and responsible. The kids have grown so much in the last two years. They LOVE to write. Our Writers Workshop is some of our busiest work. They write poems, books, stories, etc. I am very proud of the work they are doing.
My Project
The pencils and sharpener are vital writer resources. I have been able to alleviate some of the financial pressures that families have to deal with by providing school supplies. During the summer months, I was very savvy with my shopping during the sales , but we have been so busy that we have depleted our stockpile of pencils, and we have burned out two sharpener motors. The class was devastated when they heard the quiet hum that the last sharpener made when it went dead.
My students absolutely need writing supplies, and they have gotten used to coming to school to a full basket of sharpened pencils.
They never have had to worry that they could not get started writing right away. I like them to have that comfort. I want them to concentrate on the writing that they will produce.
