Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Reading is the foundation to education...and it takes a variety of reading materials to build that foundation. The "King Series" collection and "Weekly Readers" will provide students with both fiction and non-fiction reading materials.
My students attended a low-socio economic, Title 1 school where the majority receive free or reduced lunches and many live in single parent homes.
Most of the students do not realize they have these obstacles. They come to school eager to learn. With eyes open wide, they love the new books and readers that they are provided. It is the school environment that provides them with books, magazines, and materials that are designed just for students their age.
My Project
Students have different interests. The "King Series" requested includes a variety of book titles that will appeal to boys and girls in my class, as well as future classes. The "Weekly Reader"s provide timely articles of interest, and by subscribing to the readers with a science spin, students will be exposed to additional high interest information. After my students read, they like to make thinking maps, collages, mini-books, and do book reports. All of these activities take paper. Copy paper can be used for all these activities which are used to measure a students understanding of the content read.
Your donation to this project will provide my first and second grade students with "King Series" books and additional reading materials that are designed for students at their grade level; are of interest to young students; and will give them the paper needed to do extra projects and assignments.
Students deserve to have every positive resource available to them. This project is just one more positive resource and my students, as well as future students, are very deserving!
